Understanding batteries
How battery storage works
A home battery stores the solar power you don't use, giving you energy after the sun goes down and peace of mind in an outage.
Store your daytime surplus
During the day your panels often produce more power than your home uses. A battery captures that surplus instead of exporting it to the grid.
Use it at night
When the sun goes down, your home draws on the battery first, cutting your grid use and evening rates.
Set yourself up for outages
In a blackout, a battery with backup capability keeps your essential appliances running until the grid returns.
Two common system types
DC-coupled batteries are charged directly from the panels via a hybrid inverter. AC-coupled batteries are added alongside an existing inverter. Solargain will recommend what suits your setup.
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries program is offering eligible households an upfront rebate of around 30% on battery installations. Save thousands.
